Job Summary / Overall ObjectivesWe are seeking a Medical Assistant to perform basic direct patient care activities—lab tests, treatments, medication and immunization administration—under the direction of a Nurse and/or Physician. The role also includes clerical duties, quality control, performance improvement initiatives, and support of physician practice operations.
Essential Job Functions- Deliver direct and indirect patient care following hospital/physician practice policies.
- Collect patient healthcare data (vital signs, weight, chief complaint, pain assessment).
- Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Communicate pertinent information to physicians or nurses.
- Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office operations.
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and relay them to appropriate staff.
- Verify patient demographic and insurance information in the billing system.
- Enter diagnosis‑based codes and charges into the billing system.
- Complete forms and letters necessary for ongoing patient care.
- Ensure patient safety in compliance with policies.
- Label specimens with identifiers per policy.
- Adhere to infection control processes and standard precautions.
- Assist in continuous survey readiness or inspections.
- Execute quality control, monitoring functions; report out‑of‑range information immediately to supervisor.
- Practice National Patient Safety Goals.
- Schedule surgery, procedures, and testing for patients.
- Provide exit counseling, education, and scheduling of testing.
- Prepare charts for clinic sessions; obtain vital signs and weight.
- Conduct control studies and maintain logbooks per policy.
- Perform phlebotomy, read test results, and document accordingly.
- Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies daily.
- Deliver pre‑ and post‑examination education and counseling.
- Execute additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or next level of higher education.
- Strong leadership, organizational, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.
- Effective communication of complex topics to diverse audiences.
- Previous outpatient office experience.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or one year experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Certified EMT/Paramedic under the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Act 33 renewal.
- Act 34 renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance.
- Family & Friends, Northern Market.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) per American Heart Association (CPR & AED) required, Southern Market.
- Scheduled based on operational need: rotation, standby, on‑call, etc.
- Local travel between system locations may be required.

Work EnvironmentEffective March 2020 or during the pandemic: goggles, face shield, and mask are required according to CDC guidelines. Lift requirements in excess of 50 lb require assistance or transfer device.
Physical Demands (Summary)- Standing, walking, and moving frequently; occasional lifting up to 20 lb.
- Manual handling of chairs, equipment, and patient assistance.
- Reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying tasks as needed.
- Direct patient care requiring hands‑on support.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, chemicals, and potential hazardous materials under controlled conditions.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including 8‑hour and 10‑12‑hour shifts, on‑call periods, and overtime.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations requiring rapid movement and patient transfer.
- Bending, stooping, climbing stairs/ladders, standing, kneeling, squatting—moderate to frequent.
- Using keyboards/computers, gross and fine finger manipulation—daily.
- Pulling/pushing objects overhead and over 50‑lb loads with assistance as required.
- Hand/arm coordination and visual acuity—good.
- Hearing and sensory requirements comply with standard office environment.
