Position: Industrial Hygienist - United States Secret Service

Safety Specialist

Tidewater Inc is currently looking to hire an experienced safety specialist to work alongside the United States Secret Service. We are currently searching for a motivated and talented Safety Specialist with experience in Industrial Hygiene to join our team in Laurel, Maryland to provide service to one of the most prestigious agencies in the world. Your duties would be performing tasks which would include but would not be limited to managing and performing various environmental and occupational health assessments to ensure occupational health standards are being maintained at the highest level.

Safety Specialists will be able to communicate with clients, conduct fieldwork and respond to requests for proposals for a wide variety of commercial, State, and Federal clients. They will need to both manage and conduct field projects involving asbestos, lead-based paint, hazardous materials, indoor air quality and other potential occupational hazards. A desire to learn, very strong attention to detail, excellent writing skills and sound verbal communication skills are a must.

EPA training and State/District licensing for asbestos and lead-based paint are a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with maintaining and improving upon awareness methods and documentation to include:
  • Performing lead assessments for various weapons training areas
  • USSS Safety Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Forms
  • Ability to work in the field performing various risk assessments. (Performing lead assessments in shooting Ranges)
  • Regulatory required and internally developed posters for awareness Assist with EHS Newsletter development
  • Assist with training course development and implementation for USSS
  • Support the Forklift Training Program at RTC and other locations as needed
  • Perform safety building walkthroughs, track issues and facilitate resolution at various locations in conjunction with the Environmental Program personnel
  • Act as or reviews with SME, employee inquiries and concerns regarding safety aspects for USSS
  • Perform life safety inspections, tracking issues and facilitating resolution to include eyewash/safety showers, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers at RTC
  • Assist with the implementation of the Hazard Communication Program to include maintaining chemical inventories, tracking training and overall compliance

Requirements include:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in safety or industrial hygiene, and a BS degree is required for this position.
  • Maintaining testing schedule
  • Air quality control involving Mold, Asbestos, and lead.
  • Arranging testing at various locations
  • Assisting with testing (noise, air sampling, ventilation, surface wipe, etc.),
  • Reporting and tracking data
  • Maintaining equipment list and calibration requirements
  • Assist with FIT testing and support the Respiratory Protection Program
  • Support metrics development and reporting for accident/incident data and other aspects of the Accident/Incident Investigation Program
  • Stay abreast of OSHA and other safety requirements
  • Support the Hearing Conservation Program
  • Support the Environmental Program as needed
