Internship Opportunity in Applied Chemistry and Physics Group

Are you passionate about nuclear physics? Do you want to tackle tough problems and make real-world impact? If you're pursuing a PhD degree in nuclear engineering or physics and want to gain experience in sensor design, we'd love to have you join our team!

The Applied Chemistry and Physics group (QLC) is seeking an intern to help us study interactions of ionizing radiation in matter. As a member of our team, you'll help design advanced radiation sensors and study material interactions. You will join a multidisciplinary team of physicists, nuclear engineers, materials scientists, and chemists who are creative thinkers, motivated problem-solvers, and life-long learners. We develop and test sensitive detectors for screening and nuclear emergency response missions, develop trace analysis methods, and help first responders navigate hazardous environments.

We are passionate about strengthening the safety and security of our country.

As a member of our team...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to help develop approaches for sensing radiation in high background environments
  • You will run transport simulations, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop algorithms
