Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Meeting and instructing assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by Principal
  • Planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
  • Aligning lessons to standards and representing a coherent sequence of learning
  • Assisting students in taking responsibility for learning and monitoring student learning
  • Managing a learning-focused classroom community
  • Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Engaging in professional learning; possessing a growth mindset
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with families/guardians
  • Preparing for classes assigned and showing written evidence of preparation upon request of Principal
  • Guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
  • Implementing the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and providing progress reports as assigned
  • Identifying and reporting the possibility of learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and providing progress reports as required
  • Taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintaining accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
  • Assisting the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Making provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Planning and supervising purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and evaluating the job performance
  • Striving to maintain and improve professional competence by participation in training sessions and classes
  • Attending staff meetings and serving on staff committees
  • Maintaining and accepting responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensuring appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Undergoing periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintaining confidentiality
  • Performing such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy, state, or federal guidelines
  • Reading, understanding, and abiding by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by RCSD, and Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct

Qualifications:

  • Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Education or higher
  • Certification:
    Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board
  • Other Requirements:
    Required references and background check

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using equipment such as a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment:

The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high.

Terms of Employment:
Salary, days and work year as established by the Rankin County Board of Education. Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Rankin County School Board policy on Evaluation of Employees.
