Job Description

The Laurel School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of 2nd Grade Elementary Teacher for the  school year.

Qualifications
  • B.A./B.S. Degree in Education.
  • Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s). (Must have valid Montana teaching certificate prior to teaching.)
  • Ability to write and read reports and communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Ability to present information clearly and respond to inquiries from students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage time and responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
Essential Functions
  • Plan and develop course of study suitable for a particular grade level following district and state curriculum guidelines.
  • Provide individual and group instruction and learning activities designed to teach skills required for specific grade levels using the adopted course of study.
  • Develop and present specific lesson plans using a variety of methods (lectures, projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audio-visual resources, computers, and the Internet).
  • Prepare, administer, monitor, correct, and grade in-school and homework assignments and tests.
  • Maintain standards of behavior within the classroom and utilize discipline policies to foster a productive learning environment.
  • Evaluate student progress and participate in parent conferences and required meetings (staff, curriculum, in-service, instructional, building, and district).
  • Evaluate student performance against objectives; develop tests; communicate progress to parents/guardians.
  • Establish and maintain classroom control and discipline, communicating expectations of appropriate behavior.
  • Promote a structured classroom environment to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and respect.
  • Employ diverse teaching techniques to meet student needs and learning outcomes.
  • Conduct standardized tests in accordance with district policies and state law.
  • Maintain accurate student progress and attendance records.
  • Identify and address potential learning disabilities or social development concerns, coordinating with parents and appropriate staff per school policy.
  • Recommend promotion, graduation, and placement decisions for upcoming year as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, district personnel, and school board members.
  • Collaborate with educational professionals and administrators on student needs, instructional needs, and curriculum innovations.
  • Serve on district committees and meetings to support curriculum development and assessment of student progress.
  • Accept other duties related to school/district operations as assigned.
  • Report cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
  • Comply with board policies, rules, and directives.
  • Supervise classroom aides and volunteers, providing instructional leadership and guidance.
