Description
The Level III Pipefitter is a highly skilled, experienced tradesperson responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and maintenance of complex piping systems. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, the ability to interpret detailed drawings and specifications, and the capability to work independently or lead lower-level pipe fitters and helpers. The Level III Pipefitter ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Plan, layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair piping systems for steam, water, gas, air, oil, chemical, or other process systems
- Interpret and work from complex blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and specifications
- Perform precise measurements, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, and fitting of pipe materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, etc.)
- Install valves, fittings, supports, hangers, and related components
- Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and operational testing of piping systems
- Perform welding tasks (as qualified), including tack welding and production welding as required by the project.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair piping system issues
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, OSHA, local codes, etc.)
- Identify potential constructability issues and suggest adjustments or improvements to drawings or installation methods to the Foreman (final decisions remain with the Foreman).
- Able to act as second-in-command to the Foreman, assisting with day-to-day coordination of work activities.
- Lead the pipe fitting crew in the absence of the Foreman, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Level I and II Pipe fitters and helpers
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and materials used
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and proper condition
- Journeyman-level pipe fitting experience or equivalent (typically 5+ years).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Welding experience and applicable certifications preferred (e.g., SMAW, GTAW, FCAW).
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, materials, fittings, and installation methods.
- Proven leadership ability and experience guiding or supervising crews.
- Solid understanding of jobsite safety requirements and best practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with supervision and crew members.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials and tools.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying environmental conditions.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and climbing as required on active jobsites.
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, and construction environments
- Typical workweek is Monday–Thursday, with potential for overtime or weekend work based on project needs
- We serve the entire Upstate of South Carolina and occasionally neighboring states. This role requires travel to job sites as needed, with no daily reporting to the main office in Laurens, SC
