Bus Driver

Starting Date: Immediately

To transport students for School District 55 promptly, efficiently, and safely so that the department’s maximum positive impact on the district may be realized.

• Drive safely, obey all traffic laws and follow regulations and suggestions outlined during driver training.
• Maintain bus equipment and promptly report any damage to the Transportation Office and Bus Maintenance Shop.
• Ensure proper conduct of passengers and report incidents of inappropriate conduct on the bus or at bus stops to the student’s principal.
• Arrive promptly at all stops.
• Pick up and deliver passengers only in accordance with the written route description.
• Park the bus safely; keep keys out of the ignition and ensure no students are left on the bus.

• Be at least 18 years of age and meet all special physical, mental, and moral requirements established by the State.
• Meet all requirements for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for transporting students.
• Have no more than 4 points on driving record (DMV) in the previous 12 months, and the license must not have been suspended for a moving violation.
• Have a physical examination recorded on a state‑approved form within 12 months prior to initial certification and every two years at re‑certification.
• Agree to drug and alcohol tests, including one prior to initial certification and others unannounced and random.

One hundred eighty (180) days per year.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

Usual working conditions. Light work involving a minimum of physical effort and normal attention.

Ability to work in a friendly manner with co‑workers and students; read and understand maps; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools, and is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.

The work environment may involve temperatures above 100 and below 32 and may require walking on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well‑being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud, requiring the employee to raise voice to be heard.
