We are looking for a Music Director to take forward a short pilot of 16-20 singers for one year, delivering one in person session (10am - 4pm) a month at our base in Dumfries.
Dumfries Community Choir is a long-running participatory music project rooted in collaboration, inclusivity, and creative ambition. The choir has engaged hundreds of participants over the years through large-scale performances and community-led music-making.
This expanded programme builds on a successful pilot delivered between October and January, creating a smaller, focused ensemble of 16–20 singers who are keen to be challenged artistically and explore new musical approaches together.
OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Music Director to lead an expanded programme building on the original Dumfries Community Choir expanded pilot. The role works with an ensemble of 16–20 participants and supports them to develop new musical work through a participatory, collaborative process.
Key Responsibilities- Artistically lead the Dumfries Community Choir expanded programme
- Compose original music and develop a coherent set over the year
- Teach music parts and harmonies during in-person sessions
- Prepare and distribute digital learning materials in advance
Create accessible audio resources for participants with mixed musical literacy - Foster a positive and inclusive group environment
- Work collaboratively within a producer-led model
You will have experience leading vocal ensembles, composing for voices, and working inclusively with participants of mixed musical ability. You will be comfortable creating digital audio resources and enjoy participatory music-making.
