Purpose:

Direct, coordinate, and supervise all functions necessary for safe shift operation of continuous float glass manufacture. Directs and coordinates the hot end glass making and coatings supervisors, Cold End and Materials coordinators as well as the hourly workforce.

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure Safety and OSHA regulations are enforced and that Visual Workplace, T.P.M., and 5S standards are at the highest level. Ensure that safety is being discussed at the start of every shift.
  • Ensure product quality meets internal and customer specifications.
  • Develop, plan, and implement organizational and operational changes to facilitate scheduling needs.
  • Develop and improve the skill base of team members, both as individuals and as a team including probationary reviews
  • Manage payroll, timecards, attendance, vacations & discipline for Cold End team members
  • Perform activities as defined in the ICP (Integrated Contingency Plan)
  • Demonstrate a total commitment in leading the team to achieve World Class standards by applying and improving best known practices.
  • Direct and coordinate all shift production and maintenance team member activities relating to their assigned area. Coordinate and cover all plant activities while on shift.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing Processes - 5S, Kaizens, Kanban, Problem Solving (8D / 5-Why), Six Sigma, ME360, Gemba Walk.
  • Ensure all production standards for throughput, downtime, and yield meet or exceed budgeted targets.
  • Ensure employees are provided appropriate guidance, counseling, and recognition on matters related to job performance. Provide consistent guidance within plant policies and procedures to team members regarding performance and absenteeism issues while following the plant's corrective action process.

  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work-related experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and people skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrated ability in innovative, developing, and results oriented competencies.
Qualifications Desired:
  • Exposure to Six Sigma (Green Belt)
  • Knowledge of the float glass making process.
