In this role, you will lead the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) function at a new, state-of-the-art mRNA drug substance manufacturing facility as it transitions from qualification to full operations.
You will define and execute the site-wide EHS strategy, embedding robust risk management systems while ensuring full compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
This is a highly hands-on individual contributor role requiring the ability to drive both strategic direction and practical execution simultaneously, with opportunities to leverage digital and AI-driven tools to enhance EHS performance and decision-making.

What You’ll Do:
Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for the Laval site, providing leadership and technical expertise across all Environment, Health & Safety areas while fostering a strong and proactive EHS culture
Represent the site and Moderna EHS as the facility transitions into the operational phase, working closely with stakeholders to ensure all EHS requirements are met ahead of manufacturing commencement
Partner with site leadership, Corporate EHS, and cross-functional stakeholders to define, develop, and implement the site EHS strategy aligned with organizational objectives
Develop, enhance, and deploy the site EHS Management System, including comprehensive risk identification and assessment, and ensure appropriate policies, procedures, and programs are in place for manufacturing and laboratory operations
Ensure EHS policies, procedures, and programs are fully integrated into business operations, establishing KPIs to measure performance and continuously identifying improvement opportunities
Establish and lead the site EHS steering committee, fostering strong collaboration across functions
Proactively drive environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives across the site
Ensure compliance with all applicable EHS requirements, including environmental permits, health and safety regulations, chemical and biological safety, and occupational health standards
Oversee the site’s emergency and crisis management programs, ensuring plans are robust, tested, and continuously optimized
Ensure all EHS documentation is developed and maintained in line with regulatory guidelines and cGMP requirements, promoting a culture of compliance
Identify EHS training needs across all site personnel and design and deliver effective, engaging training programs
Act as the primary representative with external EHS authorities and inspectors, serving as the technical expert on all EHS matters
Provide EHS advice and support to the Moderna Canada commercial organization as needed
Perform additional duties as required to support site and organizational priorities

Here’s What You’ll Need (
Basic
Qualifications)
University degree in Environmental, Health, Safety, Engineering or relevant field.
The position requires proficiency in both French and English due to interactions with teams, partners, and tools located outside Quebec
Minimum of 8 years EHS experience in the life sciences sector, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna’s site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.
