Location: Remote (Canada-based)
Employment Type: Full-time (1-year renewable contract, subject to performance and budget priorities)
Salary: Commensurate with experience, starting at $85,000.
Schedule: Negotiable schedule at 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend commitments may be required; equivalent time off will be provided when additional hours are worked.
About the RoleThe Legal Centre for Palestine (LCP) is a Canada-based nonprofit organization dedicated to defending and advancing the legal rights of Palestinians and their allies through direct legal representation, strategic litigation, public law advocacy, and legal education. LCP works at the intersection of civil liberties, human rights, and public accountability, with a particular focus on addressing systemic discrimination, repression, and legal harassment.
LCP is seeking an experienced Staff Lawyer to play a central role in its legal work. This role represents a significant expansion of LCP’s in-house legal capacity. The successful candidate will lead complex legal matters, contribute to strategic litigation and public law advocacy, and support the development of LCP’s growing legal practice.
This position requires a lawyer who is comfortable leading files and operating with a high degree of independence, professional judgment, and responsibility, while working closely with LCP’s leadership and external counsel as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Provide legal representation and strategic legal support in matters involving civil litigation, human rights and anti-discrimination law, and administrative and public law.
- Conduct legal research, drafting, and advocacy, including pleadings, motion materials, submissions, and correspondence.
- Assess legal risk, develop litigation strategy, and advise on legal remedies and procedural options.
- Support and contribute to strategic and impact-oriented litigation initiatives.
- Provide advice to clients through our legal intake program.
- Collaborate with external counsel, legal clinics, and community partners.
- Contribute to public legal education, policy work, and written legal analysis.
- Perform other related duties as required to support LCP’s legal mission.
- Licensure to practise law in Ontario
- Three (3) or more years of hands‑on litigation experience
- Demonstrable experience in the following areas is required
: - Human rights / anti‑discrimination law
- Administrative and public law
- Substantive knowledge in the following areas is an asset
: - Privacy‑related injury torts
- Criminal law and criminal procedure
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage files independently and exercise sound professional judgment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work sensitively with affected communities
- Experience working with or within the Palestinian, Arab, and/or Muslim communities in Canada is a significant asset.
