Intervention Specialist (Teacher On Special Assignment)

An Intervention Specialist assists site administration with the coordination of intervention programs and the implementation of 1:1 monitoring and data chats with students, focusing on the improvement of student attendance, academics, and behavior while also assisting students in adhering to their college/career plans.

Purpose:

An Intervention Specialist assists site administration with the coordination of intervention programs and the implementation of 1:1 monitoring and data chats with students, focusing on the improvement of student attendance, academics, and behavior while also assisting students in adhering to their college/career plans.

Reports To:

Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, or designee

Hours Of Employment: 420 minutes, exclusive of 35 minutes for a duty-free lunch (daily schedule to be determined by supervisor). Flex hours by up to 7 hours per month to accommodate after-school, evening, and weekend events (additional flex hours may be scheduled by mutual agreement).

Core Duties:

  • Assist site administration with the following:
    • Collaborating with CTE Student Support Specialists to plan and implement school-wide student expectations assemblies
    • Conducting student expectations assemblies (including programmatic and pathway-specific expectations)
    • Analyzing student attendance, academics, and behavior data
    • Identifying students in need of interventions
    • Recommending students for appropriate interventions
    • Monitoring students assigned to intervention programs
    • Supporting teachers in developing and implementing classroom-based interventions
    • Conducting restorative and community-building circles
  • Engaging in a cycle of analysis and intervention for students within an identified range of achievement by:
    • Developing a list of target students based on identified metrics (academics - grades, PSAT, Interim Assessments, etc., attendance, and progress towards graduation)
    • Conducting 1:1 mobile student data chats utilizing the district's forms and procedures data chats will occur outside of, but still near, the student's classroom data chats will always include progress towards graduation and aligning post-high school aspirations with current levels of accomplishment
    • Maintaining a log of all student data chats and providing a weekly report
    • Communicating regularly with student's assigned counselor to ensure timely and specific wrap-around services are identified and provided
    • Analyzing the data to identify how/if students have made progress and provide a summary of the progress made and reporting this data to the site leadership/support team
    • Starting the cycle over again:
      Developing a list of target students based on identified metrics, etc.
  • Supporting teachers' engagement with the four critical PLC questions and PLC structures.
  • Conducting site attendance intervention meetings (SART) and attending district attendance intervention meetings (SARB)
  • Advising at student support meetings (SSTs, IEPs, BIPs, etc.)
  • Implementing and monitoring PBIS and school site PBIS action plan
  • Implementing and monitoring student attendance and school site attendance action plan
  • Monitoring students during passing periods, nutrition, lunch, etc.
  • Proactively communicating with parents regarding student progress towards identified attendance, academic, and behavior goals and academic interventions implemented
  • Conducting parent/community outreach and workshops
  • Threat assessments and crisis management events
  • Attend site-level and district-level professional development and/or planning meetings (collaboration, faculty, Intervention Specialists, etc.)
  • Act as the Principal's Designee over student discipline when no administrators are present on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, or designee.
