Position Overview
The student assistant position performs general office‑related tasks in the Contract Negotiations unit in the Office of Research. Many tasks involve spreadsheets, databases, and other computer-based applications. The position requires prioritization and management of time‑sensitive tasks in a fast‑paced work environment.
Job Description65% – Performs data entry duties, including checking data accuracy and performing data audits.
30% – Provides administrative support to permanent staff by performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties, including maintaining filing systems, creating files, retrieving records, preparing documents for review, and electronic filing.
5% – Provides assistance on special projects and tasks. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned, including possible receptionist‑related duties.
Required Qualifications- Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Previous work experience requiring strong attention to detail and accuracy, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with computer applications, specifically Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel, as evidenced by application materials.
- Previous work experience in an office, including use of filing systems and databases, as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong customer service skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Good organizational and time management skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions with minimal supervision, as evidenced by application materials.
- Typing, data entry, and retrieval experience; intermediate skill level with Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, as evidenced by application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments.
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position concurrently.
- We are seeking a candidate who can commit to working between 10–20 hours per week during Summer and Fall 2026 with at least 2‑hour time blocks during the hours of 8 AM–5 PM, Monday‑Friday. Availability to work for at least a year is strongly preferred.
Advertised Salary Range: $11.00 per hour.
