Overview

The Project Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of daily operations on assigned projects. This role includes training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and, when necessary, resolving employee performance issues with the help of the HR Director and Project Manager when expectations are not met.

Responsibilities
  • Manage one to twenty (1-20) hourly field employees and oversee day-to-day operations for project completion.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Review Value Engineering ideas related to work performed for BHS.
  • Identify potential issues, facilitate contingencies, and provide solutions as they arise.
  • Verify plumbing and electrical rough-in locations.
  • Provide accurate shop material and equipment lists for BHS.
  • Provide field reports to the Project Manager.
  • Consult with daily operations, directing BHS personnel and subcontractors.
  • Plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate phases of construction.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Estimator to evaluate subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Engage in customer relations activities and promote teamwork with owners, architects, engineers, officials, inspectors, subcontractors, and BHS personnel in the field.
  • Maintain tools and equipment on site; ensure equipment checked out from the shop is in good working order and returned in good condition.
  • Schedule BHS inspections and ensure subcontractor inspections are completed timely.
  • Work with building, environmental, and health and safety authorities to meet or exceed all rules and requirements.
  • Perform project mobilization and demobilization.
  • Provide on-site supervision for all project personnel and phases; resolve onsite complaints and coordinate with HR, Project Manager, or President as needed.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies and safety regulations.
  • Determine sequence of activities for fabrication, assembly, and erection of structures.
  • Schedule subcontractors and procure and schedule delivery of materials and tools for timely completion.
  • Review production schedules and estimate worker hours; maintain time and production records as requested.
  • Inspect materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules; maintain an In Progress Punch List for subcontractors and BHS.
  • Monitor budget and expenses with the Project Manager to ensure work is completed within or under budget.
  • Resolve on-site and written schedule conflicts between subcontractors and suppliers with the Project Manager.
  • Attend or conduct project meetings, including weekly jobsite meetings and progress reporting to the Project Manager.
  • Produce and maintain Redline Drawings for BHS work and ensure subcontractors have up-to-date drawings.
  • Conduct project walk-throughs with the Owner, Architect, and Project Manager; ensure all In Progress Punch List items are completed correctly and promptly.
  • Serve as primary field contact and manage unexpected issues professionally.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by the Project Manager or President.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of construction experience with prior supervisory experience
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Completed and passed OSHA 10-hour training
  • Understanding of general construction techniques, knowledge of construction equipment, ability to read and understand construction documents, and ability to perform quantity takeoffs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Sound judgment and decision-making; willing to consult with management and ownership when needed
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
