The studio offers both recreational classes and a nationally recognized competitive Company program that emphasizes artistry, discipline, and leadership.

Faculty and guest choreographers focus on developing performers and individuals, instilling perseverance, teamwork, and self-expression. IDA provides professional instruction, innovative choreography, and a welcoming community for dancers to reach their full potential.

The Dance Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based at Ignition Dance Academy in Lawrence, KS. This role involves planning and teaching structured dance classes for various ages and levels, including recreational and competitive dancers. The instructor will demonstrate technique, lead warm-ups, across-the-floor exercises, and choreography, and provide clear, constructive feedback to support each dancer’s growth. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, selecting appropriate music, maintaining a safe studio environment, coordinating with other faculty on curriculum and performances, and supporting rehearsals, competitions, and studio events.

The instructor will also communicate regularly with families, uphold IDA’s culture of respect and inclusion, and contribute to a positive, motivating learning environment.

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Dance Instruction and Dance Education, with experience teaching multiple ages and levels.
• Candidates should possess solid Teaching skills, including classroom management, lesson planning, and the ability to provide clear, supportive feedback.
• Candidates should possess advanced Dance skills and knowledge of technique in styles such as jazz, contemporary, ballet, hip hop, or tap.
• Candidates should possess Music-related skills, including musicality, rhythm, and the ability to select and count music for choreography.
• Prior studio or school teaching experience, especially in competitive dance environments, is highly beneficial.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning space.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by class schedules, rehearsals, and performances.
• Relevant education or training in dance, performing arts, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
