Job SummaryThe Math Center, located in room W201, provides drop‑in tutoring assistance for students in math classes from Basic Algebra up to Calculus 1, Business Calculus, and Statistics. Some students may also come in for help in other classes with math applications. We are looking for peer tutors to tutor several days a week for 1‑3 hours at a time. You should have a math background at least through Pre Calculus.
Experience in Calculus and Statistics is preferred. Peer tutors work with students, answering questions, working through extra examples, etc. If you like teaching and working with people, and you enjoy math, come join our team!
- Good conduct and academic standing with the college
- Sheridan College student currently enrolled
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater
- Maintain at least a B in current math class
- Proficient in mathematics concepts – algebra, problem solving, calculus and/or statistics
- Instructor recommendation preferred
- Familiarity with My Math Lab and graphing calculator preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with students both orally and in writing
Physical Requirements
- Depending on the hours, may be sitting for 1‑3 hours at a time
- No heavy lifting required
- Typical instruction environment
Percentage of time 100% responsibility/duty:
- Arrive on time for scheduled tutoring commitments
- Answer questions students have regarding math concepts in homework assignments, notes, and My Math Lab
- Communicate with students in a polite respectful way
- Discuss issues or concerns with Jennifer Nichols (Math Center Coordinator)
