Teen Research Programs Summer Coordinators

Overview

The Coordinator position is an excellent opportunity for an undergraduate student or someone early in their career. In this role, you will oversee the flow and structure of programming. This position provides valuable experience in complex project management and offers opportunities to mentor young adult staff and teens, supporting both personal and professional growth. There are 3 Coordinator roles:

  • Program Coordinator: with support from the TRP leadership team, coordinate and oversee all Teen Research Programs logistical and administrative duties such as family communications, materials management, and unforeseen scheduling changes
  • High School Tracks Coordinator: with support from the TRP leadership team, oversee logistics for all high school STEM tracks, support pedagogical, behavioral, and emotional needs across high school programs
  • Middle School Tracks Coordinator: with support from the TRP leadership team, oversee logistics for all middle school STEM tracks, support pedagogical, behavioral, and emotional needs across middle school programs

Employment type: Limited appointment

Pay: $26 per hour

Time period: June 3 – August 3 (see Required Dates & Times below)

Responsibilities
  • Manage schedule flow and structure for programming while promoting a safe environment for staff and participants’ well being.
  • Thoroughly understand dorm and campus building safety and security and implement emergency procedures as needed.
  • Utilize understanding of and the ability to support programming for teens in a meaningful way.
  • Support your team of instructors or RAs in all things logistics, communications, and limited scope of problem solving. Educational leadership and program management are provided by TRP year-round employees.
  • Coordinate your team of instructors or RAs to be responsible for activities and materials, including set-up, clean-up, and storage.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for teens in grades 7-12, and inspire them to forge their unique pathways.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of UC Berkeley and The Lawrence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent attention to detail, responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively coordinating an educational team.
  • Enthusiastic and competent to share college experiences with teens grades 7-12.
  • Reliable, punctual, and available to work for all of the required dates and times.
  • Able to traverse uneven grounds and lift up to 40 pounds (carts are available).
  • Must be over 21.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past or current experience managing complex projects or leading teen trips/programs.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in youth development, education, science, or related field.
  • A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly and adapt.
  • Some experience with Canva, Camp Doc, and Google Suite.
Required Dates and Times
  • Virtual Orientation (ideally both, must attend one)
    • Wednesday, June 3, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. OR
    • Thursday, June 4, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
  • In-person Training (must attend all)
    • Monday, June 8, 9:00–5:00 p.m. at The Lawrence Hall of Science
    • Tuesday to Friday, June 9–12, 9:00–5:00 p.m. at UC Berkeley, Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB)
