Position: Geology Instructor — Fall 2026: Teach & Inspire

Position Overview

The Geology Department invites qualified scholars and professionals to apply for part‑time to full‑time positions for the instruction of face‑to‑face courses. The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for Fall 2026. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding, as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between the University of Kansas and United Academics. UAKU is the exclusive representative for the bargaining unit. Candidates have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.

Job Description

100% Instructional Duties

  • Primary duties and responsibilities include teaching in a specific field, developing course materials, managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students, and holding office hours.
  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the instructor must arrange a substitute teacher. Classes should not be canceled.
  • Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 2.5 hours per week. For field courses, provide 40 contact hours per week.
  • Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
  • Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught, if appropriate.
  • Adhere to departmental, college, and university policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Geology, Environmental Studies, Ecology, or a related field, with evidence of research productivity in the field of specialization.
  • Previous teaching experience (classroom or online) at the university/college level.
