Position: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of the Practice, Health Sciences

Job Description

The Director of the Health Sciences program in the School of Professional Studies invites applications for a non‑tenure track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of the Practice. This faculty position is expected to teach courses for the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Trials Management, and may also teach courses for the Bachelor in Health Sciences degree and corresponding minors. Courses are offered at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, on the KU Lawrence campus, and online.

The candidate will be expected to teach in various formats such as in‑person and online. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the time of appointment.

The appointment is a Fiscal Year (12‑month) appointment with an initial term of 3 years, with a typical course load of 3 classes each fall and spring semester and 2 courses each summer semester. Subsequent appointments may be offered, contingent upon a satisfactory comprehensive performance evaluation during the final year of this appointment and approval of the Dean of the School of Professional Studies.

Teaching – 75%

Serve as faculty in the Health Sciences program. The courses must meet the curricular needs of the program.

Develop and teach eight (8) courses per year.

  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings; develop assignments, design class activities, respond to and evaluate student work in a timely manner, assign grades. Adhere to School of Professional Studies and university policies.
  • Develop and update syllabi, study guides, instructor’s guides, test questions, tests, and web‑based material. Participate in regular meetings with instructors and staff as needed. Assist in the development and implementation of technology and student‑centered pedagogies in courses. Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
  • Adhere to School of Professional Studies, Edwards Campus, and university policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty in the Health Sciences Program and School of Professional Studies to ensure that curriculum continues to meet the needs of our students, school, university, and the clinical research workforce.
  • Engage with agencies and employers and other workforce planners to determine workforce needs and translate those needs into academic curriculum given discipline standards. Ensures continued relevance of the curriculum to meet student needs.
Service – 25%
  • The ideal candidate will possess an extensive professional network across clinical research organizations (CROs), academic medical centers, and/or the pharmaceutical industry enabling them to facilitate student mentorship, student fellowship opportunities, industry partnerships, and graduate career opportunities. The faculty member will ensure continued value of the certificate to the clinical research/clinical trials workforce needs through individual meetings, small group roundtable discussions, and workforce boards.
  • Faculty are expected to perform service to the program’s constituent communities: the program, the School of Professional Studies, the University, the metro area, the State, the Nation, and the profession. All teaching faculty are expected to be members of appropriate unit‑level undergraduate committees, and other committees as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum master’s degree combined with demonstrable professional experience in clinical trials management.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills.
  • Rank of Position
    • The entry‑level rank is for Assistant Professor of the Practice with 3 – 5 years of clinical trials management‑related professional experience.
    • Associate Professor of the Practice candidates must have 6 – 15 years of clinical trials management‑related professional experience.
    • Professor of the Practice candidates must have more than 15 years of clinical trials management‑related professional experience.
