Job Description
80% - Student Supervision
* Supervise middle school and high school students during all camp activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers at all times, monitoring behavior, enforcing camp policies, and taking attendance multiple times per day as campers transition between sessions.
15% - Instructional Support
* Assist camp instructors as needed. This may include providing individualized support to campers during sessions, helping facilitate group activities, or assisting with session logistics.
5% - Additional Duties
* Perform other duties as assigned. Positions may provide temporary assistance in a variety of operational areas to support overall camp functions.

Required Qualifications
* Must be 19 years of age or older, as indicated in application materials.
* Experience or established connection with the University of Kansas through education, employment, or other involvement, as indicated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
* Junior or senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in music at KU, or experience working with KU School of Music faculty, as indicated in application materials.
* Experience overseeing the safety and well-being of minors, as reflected in application materials.
* Current First Aid and CPR certification, as indicated in application materials.
* Experience supervising minors in educational and/or recreational settings, as indicated in application materials
Please note preference may be given to candidates representing under‑represented instrumental families among the counseling staff.
Position Overview
The Camp Counselor position works under the guidance of the Head Counselors, Camp Director, and Camp Coordinator to support the overall student residential experience during the Midwestern Music Camps. Counselors help foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers and serve as a key connection point between students, camp faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to engage positively with youth and colleagues alike.
Camp Counselors are required to reside in the dorms for the full duration of the camp. All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check on or before their first day of employment.

Position Requirements
* Camp Counselors are required to reside in the dorms for the full duration of the camp.
* During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
