Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy is seeking an individual to lead the Department of Pharmacy Practice to support the instruction, research, and clinical mission across multiple (three) campus locations, while continuing and enhancing the reputation and quality of the program to those served. This position will provide the opportunity to remain engaged in teaching, research, scholarship, and service to further academic interests.
Job Description- Position Type and Reporting
- Full‑time, 12‑month, Unclassified Academic Staff
- Associate or Full Clinical Professor in Lawrence, Kansas
- Reports directly to the Dean of Pharmacy
- Rank Determination
- Based on qualifications, professional performance, research, and service experience sufficient for Associate or Full Clinical Professor
- Administration – 50%
- Effective execution of University policies at the Departmental level
- Leadership and oversight of all Departmental activities, including faculty recruitment, retention, and development
- Adjudication of personnel matters and representation for grievance procedures
- Oversight and enhancement of all Departmental resources across multiple campuses
- Annual evaluation of faculty (teaching, research, clinical practice, service) and support staff
- Appointment of adjunct faculty
- Collaborate with faculty to review and modify the strategic plan for teaching, research, clinical practice, and service
- Develop and support appropriate resources and faculty sites for School and Graduate programs
- Enhance research, clinical, and educational relationships between the Department and allied units, public, private, or government institutions
- Prepare and submit the annual Departmental budget with the Office Manager
- Manage all Departmental funds in accordance with School and University budgetary guidance
- Initiate annual fundraising efforts to support Departmental needs
- Attend and complete University required trainings
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Pharmacy
- Teaching – 20%
- Teaching responsibilities up to the equivalent of 2 credit hours per academic year
- Coordinate and instruct didactic courses in the School of Pharmacy curriculum for the professional Pharm.
D. program - Hold regular office hours and advise and mentor professional degree‑seeking students
- Research – 20%
- Conduct ongoing research and scholarship in Pharmacy Practice
- Define research focus, secure internal/external funding, and maintain an active research program
- Collaboration within the department and with other healthcare disciplines
- Publish and present research in peer‑reviewed journals of national or international stature
- Service – 10%
- Support the Profession, University, School of Pharmacy, and Department through committee and organizational leadership
- Hold elected positions in professional organizations and serve on local, state, and national committees
- Advise student organizations within the School and referee for granting agencies, journals, and professional association materials
- Terminal degree in pharmacy (Pharm.
D. from an ACPE‑accredited school; for pre‑2000 graduates, a BS degree is considered terminal) - Licensed to practice pharmacy in Kansas or eligible to obtain licensure within six months of employment
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience as a pharmacist in a practice setting
- Established record of research and service evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, external funding, and/or presentations
- Strong record of teaching and mentoring professional degree‑seeking students, graduate students, or pharmacy residents
- Documented leadership experience in developing and enhancing relationships with community partners
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Experience as an academic department chair
- Experience with academic budgeting
- Experience managing a team across multiple locations
- Experience leading in a newly unionized academic environment
