Position Overview
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a community-driven program offering comprehensive, personalized support to eligible KU students. Our goal is to increase college retention and graduation rates, helping students transition between academic levels and prepare for graduate study and a global career.
Ideal CandidateWe seek a professional with excellent verbal and written communication and tutoring skills. Independence, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and organizational capabilities, and the ability to follow through on tutoring assignments are essential.
Tutoring (75%)Assist students in preparing for class and tests, review key concepts, assess learning progress, and create a supportive learning environment that encourages patience and rapport with each student.
Reporting & Training (20%)Ensure punctual attendance for tutoring sessions, complete online time sheets and required paperwork, keep the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development informed of tutoring issues, and attend all required orientations, trainings, and team meetings.
Other Duties (5%)- Check KU email regularly for information and assignments.
- Submit a two‑week notice before resignation.
- 3.0 or better GPA in the subject area(s) to be tutored or special consent from the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development.
- 12–15 credit hours in the subject area(s) to be tutored or special consent from the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development.
- Experience communicating effectively with varied populations, as evidenced by application materials.
- Prior knowledge or experience in tutoring varied populations.
- Completion of one semester or more of coursework at KU.
- Eligibility for work‑study.
- Students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the semester term of appointment. Summer students must have been enrolled in at least six hours in the previous spring, be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall, be enrolled in a summer session, or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall.
- Student hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students; GRA/GTA/GA roles do not apply to this position.
This is a student hourly/non‑exempt position. Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless otherwise approved by unit leadership and HR.
