Position: English Language Arts Teacher (Grades 9-10)

English Language Arts Teacher (Grades 9-10)

Full-Time, 10-Month Employee, Sagamore Hills Campus

For over 50 years, Lawrence has delivered academic excellence to students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and ADHD, training faculty to become experts in how students process information, with small class sizes and a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction and Management

Lead up to 6 sections of 9/10th grade English Language Arts and one Targeted Intervention section for literacy support. Perform typical teacher duties.

Specialized Methodology

Utilize the school's instructional methodology, adapting English literature and writing assignments for students with learning differences after training.

Remediation

Prepare content systematically, remediating student skill/knowledge deficits in reading comprehension, writing mechanics, and literary analysis.

Structured Environment

Maintain a highly structured, systematic, predictable, and safe learning environment.

Instructional Strategies

Use diverse and individualized instructional strategies while integrating the school's educational and assistive technology.

Student Connection

Provide one‑on‑one connections and effective curriculum implementation.

Behavioral Management

Follow Assertive Discipline and seek assistance from the Campus Leadership Council for intense situations.

Administration

Ensure accurate attendance information.

Preparation and Follow‑Up

Grading

Enter assignments and grades into the database weekly; post current week’s grades by Friday.

Planning

Complete biweekly curriculum maps planning academic skills, executive function support, and assessments.

Reporting

Complete all paperwork and reports promptly (e.g., IEP progress reports, grade reports, parent summaries).

Leadership Collaboration

Communicate frequently with the Campus Leadership Council on student, parent, or school operation issues.

Compliance

Review student learning plan updates; report suspected child abuse or neglect promptly.

Parent Communication & Service

Responsiveness

Respond to parent contact within 24 hours.

Touchpoints

Meet or exceed all communication touchpoint requirements.

Meetings

Participate in bi‑annual Parent‑Teacher Conferences and special meetings.

Campus Life:
Engage in community by coaching or advising at least one after‑school activity per year.

Professional Growth:
Attend mandatory PLC meetings and complete training.

Presence:
Maintain professional presence at school‑sponsored activities, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Collaboration:

Treat each student, co‑worker, parent, and community member with respect; actively seek collaboration opportunities.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or related field.

Certification

ODEW Teacher certification required. Intervention Specialist K‑12 preferred; non‑tax certification considered.

Experience

Previous classroom teaching experience preferred.

Expertise

Ability to implement the school’s curricula and teaching methods, and collaborate with parents and leadership.

Key Skills & Knowledge

Expert knowledge of ELA curriculum for grades 9‑10.

Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail, accuracy, discretion, and judgment.

Ability to manage stress, student behavior, and respond to emergencies.

Schedule

Ten‑month position following the academic calendar. Workload extends beyond contract hours for planning and communication.

Mon – 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tue‑Fri – 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
