Position Overview
The Information Technology Open Rank Professor of the Practice position is both an Administrative and non‑tenure‑track Teaching position. This faculty position is expected to teach in the undergraduate programs in Information Technology (IT) and Applied Cybersecurity, the Bachelor of Professional Studies concentration in Applied Data Analytics, the Master’s program in Information Technology, and the associated graduate certificate programs at the Edwards Campus (IT Programs).
The candidate will be expected to teach in various formats, such as in‑person, hybrid, and online.
The appointment is a Fiscal Year (12‑month) appointment with an initial term of 3 years, with a typical course load of eight classes each year. Subsequent appointments may be offered, contingent upon a satisfactory comprehensive performance evaluation during the final year of this appointment and approval of the Dean of the School of Professional Studies.
This position serves the educational needs of several Johnson County Education Research Triangle (JCERT) programs, with specific percentages of effort determined each year.
Job Description Teaching – 80%Teach eight courses per year in the IT Programs. Responsibilities include curriculum development, instructional design, virtual classroom management, grading, and continuous teaching improvement. Faculty maintain current curricula and engage with external organizations to ensure relevance to workplace needs. Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, and projects.
Service – 20%Professional service includes engaging in program promotion, curriculum enhancement, scholarly and pedagogical development, mentoring students, and collaborating with faculty and staff. Stay current on IT industry developments and academic best practices.
Required Qualifications- Assistant Professor of the Practice: 3–5 years
- Associate Professor of the Practice: 5–15 years
- Professor of the Practice: 15+ years
