Position Description
The Family Minister will provide leadership and vision for the church’s ministry to children, students, and families from birth through high school graduation. This person will serve as the primary leader of the student ministry (6th–12th grade) while also overseeing and equipping volunteers within the children’s ministry.
The ideal candidate will be a relational disciple-maker who loves Jesus deeply, invests in people intentionally, and is passionate about reaching and equipping the next generation with the gospel. This is a full‑time position.
Key Responsibilities- Intentional Discipleship
- Develop a birth‑to‑high‑school graduation discipleship pathway that helps children and students grow into mature followers of Jesus. Ensure teaching, curriculum, and events align with the church’s mission and vision.
- Youth Ministry
- Serve as the primary leader for middle school and high school ministry by providing biblical teaching, relational discipleship, mentorship, and leadership for weekly gatherings, retreats, camps, and special events.
- Children’s Ministry Oversight
- Provide direction and oversight for the children’s ministry by recruiting, training, equipping, and encouraging volunteers.
- Partner with Parents
- Encourage and support parents as the primary disciple rs of their children by providing resources, communication, training, and pastoral encouragement that helps families grow spiritually together.
- Pastoral Care
- Serve as a loving shepherd for the families and members of the church.
- Spiritual Maturity
- Demonstrates a growing and vibrant relationship with Jesus and meets the biblical qualifications for serving God’s church.
- Theological Alignment
- Affirms and supports the doctrinal beliefs and mission of Lawrence Heights Christian Church and the broader Independent Christian Church tradition.
- Relational
- Genuinely loves people and demonstrates the ability to connect with children, students, parents, volunteers, and church members of all ages. Invests intentionally in the lives of others through encouragement, discipleship, and personal example.
- Heart for the Lost
- Has a passion for reaching lost students and families for Jesus Christ. Recognizes the unique mission field of Lawrence, Kansas and is excited to get to work in the harvest field.
- Driven and Self‑Motivated
- A self‑starter who works with initiative, humility, excellence, and a strong commitment to honoring Jesus through faithful ministry.
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. Previous ministry experience in student, family, or children’s ministry is strongly desired.
- Organizational Ability
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams effectively. Able to create healthy systems while maintaining a relational ministry culture.
