Job Description
Lead Writing Consultants are current writing consultants who serve as peer leaders and educators. In addition to consulting hours, they support additional programming, training, and administrative needs within Writing Center Services. These tasks may include serving as workshop presenters, writing group facilitators, embedded writing consultants, CDG facilitators, or administrative support. Tasks will vary by semester and be distributed equitably amongst lead writing consultants depending on scheduling and needs.
For example, one lead consultant may be embedded support while another is a CDG facilitator. Below is a short description of each support area:
* Writing Groups:
Facilitate weekly accountability writing groups for undergraduate students.
* Embedded Writing Consultants:
Attend and support co-requisite English pathways courses (English 1W) through leading short presentations, participating in in-class activities, holding drop-in consulting time, and providing dedicated writing consultations.
* CDG Facilitators:
Plan and facilitate biweekly meetings with small groups of writing consultants and lead discussions on writing and learning center theory and practice as well as issues and ideas group members encounter in the course of their work.
* Workshops:
Lead prepared writing workshops for undergraduate courses on campus.
* Administrative:
Conduct consultant observations and check-ins, develop resources, and assist with other training and administrative tasks as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40%:
Conduct Writing Consultations
* Facilitate and foster student learning by asking questions, collaborating with writers during consultations, and teaching important writing strategies and concepts
* Contribute to the creation of a welcoming and collaborative environment for learning
50%:
Provide Additional Writing Center Services
The role will include a select mix of the following tasks that changes each semester:
* Serve as an embedded writing consultant in English pathways courses during select semesters
* Plan and facilitate bi-weekly consultant development group meetings during select semesters
* Facilitate writing groups for undergraduate students during select semesters
* Lead writing workshops and assist with marketing events
* Conduct consultant observations, complete observation reports, and assist with mid-semester check-in meetings
* Assist with additional training and administrative tasks as needed
5%:
Participate in Professional Development
* Participate in pre-service training and ongoing education, trainings, and professional development
* Participate in committees and special projects, bringing your ideas, interests, and skills to expand the collective knowledge and abilities of the Wingspan
5%:
Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule
The Wingspan is located in Anschutz Library on the KU Lawrence campus, and shifts are scheduled between 9 am-7 pm Monday-Thursday, 9 am-5 pm Friday, and 2-6 pm Sunday. The schedule is dependent on needs and consultant availability.
