Position Overview
The Academic Success Student Navigator is dedicated to the mission of providing high quality, student-to-student interactions focused on early student engagement while increasing student motivation for excellence s position will serve students directly and act as a referral agent to other units and departments as needed. The goal of the position is to ensure students have an advocate and accountability partner to increase student completion within introduction coursework at KU.
Job Description70% Student Support Through Outreach
- The Academic Success Student Navigator plays a critical role in student success by assisting students in the areas of student academic case management through KU’s early alert system, student outreach and appointment scheduling, peer-level academic connection and guidance with fundamental student skills, individual student engagement focused on overcoming personal and academic barriers, student referral to success resources, and data entry. This position is expected to learn and refer students to the breadth of support systems available s position is expected to be highly engaged in the academic success technology platform where students will document student outreach, send texts, emails, and phone calls to students directly, close student cases as appropriate for tracking.
Training and professional development opportunities.
20% Team Engagement and Community Building
- Weekly staff meetings and different engagement opportunities.
- Continued learning through engagement with representatives from across campus regarding student support services, resources, policies, etc.
10% Program Improvement
- Provide program feedback for continuous improvement.
- Assist with updating program materials as requested.
Other duties as assigned by AVP, Director, Supervisor, etc.
Required QualificationsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in upcoming Spring semester in no less than 6 hours. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
(Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
