Overview
Prairie Moon Waldorf School is a Kansas–based Waldorf school dedicated to a combined classroom model. It seeks an experienced educator who nurtures wonder and curiosity in young children, collaborates with families and colleagues, and embodies a dynamic approach to Waldorf pedagogy.
Responsibilities- Use Waldorf teaching methods and pedagogy; create age‑appropriate lessons for fourth and fifth grade, applying a technology‑free approach.
- Schedule and attend home visits in August before the beginning of each school year.
- Host one Parent Association evening per year lecturing on a Waldorf or Steiner subject to educate parents and the PMWS community.
- Collaborate with other teachers to create and follow the daily school schedule during in‑service days.
- Attend open houses, student concerts, and seasonal festivals throughout the school year.
- Participate in at least one committee of choice during the school year (Finance, Professional Development, Fundraising, Facilities & Maintenance, Outreach, Parent Association, and Policy & Planning).
- Help plan 1–2 festivals or events per year, serving as a lead on assigned tasks.
- Attend teacher in‑service sessions, lasting 1–3 days, 2–3 times per year.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings and participate in faculty‑led book study; collaborate with other faculty and administration to create the school‑year calendar and conduct a weekly departmental meeting.
- Maintain a mentor relationship throughout the year.
- Complete at least ten hours of continuing education annually; additional training in the summer is encouraged.
- Waldorf teacher training and experience teaching in a Waldorf grades program.
- Strong passion for Waldorf education and willingness to attend teacher training.
- Ability to work well with others and independently, with a pioneering spirit.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum; master’s degree preferred.
- Must be able to pass a KBI check (no felony or crime against persons).
- Priority given to candidates willing to commit to an eight‑year cycle.
- Interest in Biodynamic agriculture and Anthroposophic architecture.
