The job of Para educator – School Psychologist is to provide support to assigned School Psychologists, ensure compliance with special education procedural requirements, and provide information or direction as requested.
Essential Functions- Assist the school psychologist in maintaining procedural compliance, including timeline dates for IEPs, to meet local, state, and federal regulations.
- Complete SPED paperwork using the district’s IEP software system to maintain accurate records.
- Coordinate with teachers and specialists and participate in team meetings to support the special education process.
- Gather assessment data (record reviews and observations) to support special education evaluations.
- Maintain student files/records documenting activities and providing reliable information.
- Participate in in‑service workshops and training to receive and convey job‑related information.
- Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (copying, updating IEP documents, printing, etc.) to support the school psychologist.
- Prepare written materials documenting activities and providing references.
- Schedule meetings for the school psychologist with parents and/or school staff to arrange required evaluation and reevaluation meetings.
- Summarize, record, and distribute special education meeting notes.
- Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Experience:
Job‑related experience desired. - Education:
Targeted, job‑related education in a related area. - Equivalency:
High‑school diploma/GED required;
Paraeducators in a Title I building must have a minimum of 48 college credit hours or successful completion of a state‑approved Para educator assessment. - Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Operate standard office equipment and maintain accurate records.
- Use relevant software applications.
- Basic math, reading manuals, writing documents, understanding multi‑step oral and written instructions.
- Perform scheduling, data collation, and use of job‑related equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality, communicate with diverse groups, adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, work as part of a team, establish effective working relationships, adhere to district policies, and attend regularly.
- Testing & Certificates:
None specified. - Continuing Education/Training: 20 hours of in‑service annually.
- Clearances:
Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Kansas Department of Children and Families. - Physical Demands:
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching; fine finger dexterity; 35% sitting, 35% walking, 30% standing; performed in a hazard‑free environment. - FLSA Status:
Non‑exempt.
