Job Description

Teaching (70%)

* Teach up to 16 students each semester in JAZZ 100/121/221-Applied Study in Commercial Voice and/or Commercial Guitar

* Develop (Fall 2026) and teach (Spring 2027) a new 3-credit hour course in Songwriting

* Additional teaching duties may include MUS 280-Introduction to Music Production; JAZZ 409-Jazz and Commercial Music Combos

Research/Creative Activity (20%)

* Establish a research/creative agenda pursuant of artistic growth and an expanding reputation of excellence.

* Participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.

Service (10%)

* Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees.

* Collaborate with other members of the faculty.

* Recruit music majors and students pursuing other major area of study.

* A minimum of five years of experience as a professional pop/commercial music singer, guitarist and/or songwriter.

Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), non-tenured commercial voice, guitar and songwriting Lecturer to begin on August 18, 2026. The successful candidate will be surrounded by colleagues who share your passion for artistic expression, educating students, creating professional opportunities in the discipline, and are eager to create new ways for engagement in learning.

Lecturers are instructional members of the faculty and are not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. This is a one to three-year academic-year appointment beginning August 18, 2026. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding, as well as performance that meets expectations.
