Position OverviewThe primary role of the Director for Experiential Education is to prepare students for their future endeavors by giving them practical, hands‑on experiences that deepen their understanding and build essential skills by connecting classroom learning to real‑world applications. This role collaborates with faculty, administrators, and external partners to curate programs that include internships, service learning, field trips, and other experiential learning opportunities.
The position focuses on Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) while supervising others with Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) and preceptor site coordination visits, and promotes continuous quality improvement of experiential programs. It also holds faculty rank within Pharmacy Practice with teaching responsibilities (0.25 FTE).
- Rotation schedule creation and management for APPEs
- Rotation site onboarding and maintenance
- Policy, procedure, and rotation syllabus management
- Student engagement and career advising support
- Assessment and quality improvement initiative management
- Website and management system utilization
- Preceptor retention and recruitment activities including education and development
- Student development and professional identity formation activities
- Coordinate and instruct didactic and laboratory courses in the PharmD program as assigned
- Participate in and support interprofessional education activities
- Support objective structured learning/examination activities
- Serve on department, school, and university committees and provide service at regional, state, or national levels
- Support student engagement in outreach activities such as health fairs and service initiatives
- Contribute to faculty recruitment efforts through search committees
- Build and sustain relationships with professional organizations and partners within healthcare and pharmacy sectors
- Support student development via academic advising, mentorship, and involvement with student organizations and professional societies
- Participate in scholarship leading to conference presentations, peer‑reviewed manuscripts, instructional materials, or invited lectures
- Conduct practice or educational based research with or without funding
