Position: Chairperson - Assoc/Full Clinical Professor

Position Overview

The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy is seeking a leader to head the Department of Pharmacy Practice across three campus locations. The role supports instruction, research, and clinical missions while enhancing the department's reputation and quality. The successful candidate will be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date and may remain engaged in teaching, research, scholarship, and service.

Job Description

This full‑time, 12‑month, Unclassified Academic Staff position is either an Associate or Full Clinical Professor located in Lawrence, Kansas, reporting directly to the Dean of Pharmacy.

Administrative Responsibilities (50%)
  • Effective execution of University policies at the Departmental level.
  • Leadership and oversight of all Departmental activities, including faculty recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Adjudication of personnel matters and service as the administrative representative for grievance procedures.
  • Oversight and enhancement of all Departmental resources across multiple campuses.
  • Supervision and annual evaluation of faculty across multiple campuses in the areas of teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
  • Supervision and annual evaluation of support staff.
  • Appointment of adjunct faculty.
  • Review and modify, in collaboration with the faculty, the strategic plan for the Department in the areas of teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
  • Development and support of appropriate resources and faculty sites for School and Graduate programs through frequent communication with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and other administrators.
  • Development and enhancement of research, clinical, and educational relationships between the Department and its allied units within the University as well as appropriate public, private, or government institutions and agencies.
  • Preparation and submission of the annual Departmental budget in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice Office Manager.
  • Management of all Departmental funds in accordance with School and University budgetary guidance.
  • Initiate annual fundraising efforts to support Departmental needs.
  • Attendance and completion of University required trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Pharmacy.
Teaching Responsibilities (20%)

The teaching responsibilities are required and will be determined based on department needs. Normal teaching responsibilities are no more than the equivalent of 2 credit hours of instruction each academic year. Responsibilities may include coordination and instruction of didactic courses in the School of Pharmacy curriculum for the professional Pharm.

D. program. The position requires holding regular office hours and advising and mentoring professional degree‑seeking students.

Research Responsibilities (20%)

Faculty within the Department of Pharmacy Practice are expected to conduct research and scholarship on an ongoing basis. Candidates will define their research focus, seek internal or external funding, and develop and maintain an active research program. Collaboration with other healthcare disciplines is essential. Publication and presentation of completed research is expected in peer‑reviewed journals with national or international stature.

Service Responsibilities (10%)

Service includes participating in various committees and organizations. This may include holding elected positions in professional organizations and serving on local, state, and national committees. Other responsibilities may involve advising student organizations within the School and refereeing for granting agencies, journals, and professional association meeting materials.

Required Qualifications
  • A terminal degree in pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school; for pre‑2000 graduates a BS degree is considered terminal) and eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Kansas or eligible to obtain Kansas licensure within six months of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience as a pharmacist in a practice setting.
