Position: 2026-2027* TEACHER SPECIALIZED CLASSROOM ELEMENTARY

Teacher Specialized Classroom Elementary

Lawrence Unified School District (KS), Multiple (Job pool - SpEd) – Lawrence, Kansas

Salary: $51,000 to $82,942 Per Year

Position Type: Full‑Time

Stipend: Annual $1,800 Special Education Services Stipend

Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $2,000 per year available

Eligibility: Special education licensure

Job Description

Positions may be filled on a full‑time or part‑time basis, depending on candidate preference and organizational needs.

Schedule:

FTE: 1.0, Hours/Day: 8, Days per year: 188 (new teachers)/186 (returning teachers), School Year: 2026-27.

Qualifications
  • Kansas Teaching Certificate/License with Special Education endorsement.
  • “Highly qualified” status according to KSDE and federal regulations.
  • Alternative qualifications acceptable if approved by Board.
Reports To

Principal or administrator designee.

Job Goal

Provide an effective program of instruction based on the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Performance and Responsibilities
  • Builds instruction upon previously learned materials.
  • Uses a variety of teaching materials and techniques appropriate for content area and for all students/adults.
  • Assesses student/adult needs and progress regularly.
  • Provides re‑teaching, adaptation, and/or extensions as needed.
  • Demonstrates evidence of individual student/adult learning.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and documents preparation.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as required for assignment.
  • Demonstrates command of the subject matter and implements district curriculum and assessment program.
  • Applies new instructional and technology skills.
  • Collaborates with staff to plan curriculum, goals, objectives, methods, and assessments.
  • Attends staff/team meetings and cooperates on resource sharing.
  • Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains a conducive classroom environment.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with students, parents, colleagues, and others related to assignment.
  • Demonstrates respect and value for all students and staff.
  • Maintains professional and ethical standards.
  • Tends to schedule and location requirements.
  • Upholds school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains required state certification/licensure standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Special Education Addendum
  • Maintain current knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
  • Perform accurate, functional assessment of individual student learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate Individual Education Plans.
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to develop supporting programs.
  • Develop appropriate modifications, curriculum, and environments for students with exceptionalities.
  • Work with various students with exceptionalities from all legally recognized domains.
  • Attend a Special Education Academy.
  • Support instructional process by developing special education student success.
  • Deliver group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines.
  • Collaborate to address instructional and classroom issues and respond to inquiries from students, parents and guardians.
