SCHOOL COUNSOR (Elementary)
Lawrence Unified School District (KS) Cordley Elementary – Lawrence, Kansas.
Reports to: Building Principal.
Job Goal: To plan, develop, implement and/or assess learning activities for students, parents, and staff that promote the development of knowledge, attitudes and interpersonal skills to help students understand and respect themselves and others; assist students in making decisions, setting goals, and taking necessary action to achieve personal, social, academic and career goals; gain an understanding of personal safety skills; acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning;
investigate the world of work and encourage informed decisions in preparation for a career, and lead to an understanding of the relationship between personal qualities, academics, training, and the world of work.
- Builds instruction upon previously learned materials.
- Uses a wide variety of materials and techniques as appropriate for all students assigned.
- Provides for regular assessment of student needs and progress.
- Provides evidence of individual student learning.
- Prepares for assigned learners/responsibilities and shows evidence of such preparation.
- Demonstrates effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as necessary for assignment.
- Implements the district's written assigned curriculum.
- Demonstrates command of the assigned content curriculum.
- Demonstrates commitment to learn and apply new instructional and technology skills as related to assignment.
- Collaborates daily with selected groups (i.e. teacher teams) to reflect and refine their day-to-day practice.
- Works with other members of the staff in planning building or district curriculum, instructional goals, objectives, methods and assessments.
- Attends and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
- Cooperates with others regarding selection, use and sharing of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
- Develops and maintains an environment conducive to learning.
- Establishes and maintains communications with students, parents, colleagues and others as related to assignment.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Demonstrates respect and value for all students and staff.
- Maintains professional and ethical standards.
- Meets and instructs students at designated location and times.
- Upholds and enforces school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- KSDE School Counselor endorsement or LMSW license required.
- FTE: 1.0;
Hours per day: 8.0;
Days per year: 188 (new teachers) / 186 (returning teachers);
Fiscal year: 2026‑27. - Salary based on certified salary schedule; annual range $51,000 to $82,942.
- Position type:
Full‑Time.
- Possesses and maintains certification/licensure in the state of Kansas.
- Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner.
- Possesses composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers.
- Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely, and helpful manner.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software and communication equipment.
- Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others.
Salary: Certified Salary Schedule + Fringe benefits. Annual salary range $51,000 to $82,942.
