Position: EECS Lecture Assistant | Student Hourly

EECS Lecture Assistant | Student Hourly | University of Kansas

EECS Lecture Assistants will aid instructors during lecture activities. Lecture Assistants will work directly with their instructor to discuss any preparation work needed prior to lectures. A Lecture Assistant is expected to attend every session of a particular lecture (e.g. MWF 9am EECS 168). Lecture Assistants are not permitted access to student grades. The goal of this job is to reduce the student to instructor ratio and to provide peer support to the students currently taking the course.

Duties include assisting with various EECS courses. Assistance includes holding office hours, conducting help sessions, answering student questions, helping course instructors during class periods, course development, and other assistance as needed. The position will be terminated if KU GPA falls below the required minimum of 3.0.

Required Qualifications
  • Current student in the EECS department or a closely related discipline.
  • Successful completion with a grade of B or better of the EECS course or equivalent you are assisting with.
  • Have a minimum KU GPA of 3.0.
Position Requirements
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
    1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlys may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.

PLEASE INCLUDE THE COURSE NUMBER AND NAME (e.g., EECS 388 EMBEDDED SYSTEMS) This is a POOL position to hire multiple Supplemental Instructors. Application review begins July 26, 2026. Flexible up to 20 hours weekly depending upon student schedule.
