Program Manager – Underground Injection Control Class I (K0229183)

Job Type: Full time, Regular. Work schedule Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm (flexible schedules available). Eligible to receive benefits. Veterans preference eligible. KDHE does not provide sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Lead planning, coordination, and oversight for implementation of the UIC Program within the Geology & Well Technology Section.
- Ensure consistency and quality of program elements; develop, modify, and implement QA/QC, fairness, and agency guidelines.
- Plan and conduct surveillance, permitting, monitoring, and inspection activities for well construction and abandonment for all UIC Class I facilities and wells.
- Conduct and evaluate geological and hydrogeological studies to determine environmental criteria for well construction, operation, and abandonment.
- Review and evaluate complex geological and hydrogeological work plans, proposals, and reports for accuracy and technical adequacy.
- Provide technical guidance on complex, highly specialized projects requiring advanced professional experience and a geology license.
- Analyze and interpret geological and other technical data to develop solutions to environmental problems.
- Ensure State/EPA commitments are met; prepare reports as required by the EPA UIC Program.
- Assist in review of UIC Class III permit applications, evaluate groundwater and geologic conditions and hazards; prepare comments and follow‑up with industry owners or consultants.
- Prepare surface geology and hydrogeology maps; develop groundwater contour maps and geologic cross sections; provide technical support to other programs.
- Support career development, communicate effectively, and foster a creative working environment.
- Track deadlines for document reviews or oversight of facilities; create and revise procedural documents, forms, and guidance for UIC operators.
- Education:
High School / GED (minimum). Preferred:
Four‑year degree in geology, chemical, or petroleum engineering. - Licensing & Certification:
Valid driver’s license; professional geology license recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical (preferred). - Experience:
Minimum four years in geology; preferred experience as Program Manager – Underground Injection Control and with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, proofreading, and attention to detail. Ability to use personal protective equipment. - Skills:
Provide technical and hydrogeologic support; develop maps; analyze data; communicate effectively.
