Icorium is an advanced separation technology company redefining refrigerant reclamation. Its proprietary separation technology, built on ionic liquid-based extractive distillation, hollow fiber membranes and pressure swing adsorption using porous materials, recovers high-purity refrigerants from complex mixtures that would otherwise be stockpiled, destroyed or released into the atmosphere. Founded in 2022 as a University of Kansas spinout, Icorium is headquartered at KU Innovation Park in Lawrence, Kan., and has earned national recognition for its innovation, including National Science Foundation funding and multiple startup awards.

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Sr. Process Engineer with expertise in taking separation processes from pilot scale to full production. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading piloting, equipment scale up, system installation, and commissioning activities at our Lawrence, KS facility, ensuring our separation systems operate reliably at increasing scale. This is an in person role based at KU Innovation Park.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the scale up of process equipment from pilot to demonstration and commercial scale, including extractive distillation, pressure swing adsorption, and membrane separation systems.
  • Plan and execute commissioning activities for new and upgraded process equipment, including startup procedures, functional testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with process engineering and R&D teams to translate ASPEN Plus and ASPEN HYSYS models into physical equipment specifications and operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and contractors on fabrication, installation, and field service.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate system performance against design targets.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical, instrumentation, and process issues that arise during scale up and commissioning.
  • Process flow diagram, P&, and control logic development and documentation.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for new systems.
  • Document commissioning results and present findings to technical and non technical stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with separation unit operations, ASPEN Plus or ASPEN HYSYS process models, and 3D design software Fusion or related is a plus.
  • Comfortable working hands on in a lab or pilot plant setting as well as at a desk analyzing data.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work through ambiguous, evolving problems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross functionally with R&D, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Willingness to travel for team collaboration, site visits, and technology implementation.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
