Job Purpose
This position is part of the clinical team. The lead pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in providing patients with friendly, efficient, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services. The lead pharmacy technician will assist the Director of Pharmacy with inventory maintenance, training of new staff, 340B compliance, and the Medication Assistance Program.

Duties And Responsibilities- Interact face to face with public and staff-actively engaging and finding ways to assist patients in accessing medications
- Actively maintains inventory, including ordering, applying order, returning, shelving, and managing on-hand quantities and overstock. Maintains active pharmacy and clinic administered medication stock supplies
- Provides training to newly hired technicians and is a resource for trained technicians
- Facilitates recall information to patients, as needed
- Operates cash register, handling cash and other tenders of payment such as vouchers, debit and credit cards and balancing registers
- Answers the telephone, responding to questions and requests
- Maintaining and updating referral documentation
- Responsible for maintaining clinic medication orders
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy with completing insurance audits
- Performs all duties, services, and documentation in full compliance with Heartland Community Health Center policies and procedures
- Maintains and applies knowledge of the 340B program, sliding fee scale, and referral prescriptions
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy with 340B program compliance, as necessary
- Manages the Medication Assistance Program, including assisting patients and care teams with applications, application processing, medication ordering, and program reporting
- Assists the pharmacist with filling new and refill prescriptions
- Prepares prescriptions for delivery or to be mailed, as needed
- Assists the pharmacist with MTM, as needed
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- KS Pharmacy Technician License required
- Nationally Certified by taking/passing the PTCE
- Minimum five (5) years of pharmacy experience preferred
- Maintain Continuing Education as required
- Customer service oriented; patient centered focus that promotes minimizing barriers to obtaining medications for patients
- Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee base
- Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care
- Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization
- Communicates through appropriate channels and follows proper chain of command for patient complaints
- Must be organized and able to manage/prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, adapts to change in a positive manner, able to work as a part of a team
- Computer skills to navigate Microsoft products, pharmacy management system and EHR software; eClinical
Works experience preferred - Organizational skills
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
- Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
- Good communication skills in speaking and in writing
- Must be able to work well with others in a close environment
- Knowledge of prior authorizations and billing prescription insurance
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to move; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Computer work is frequent
- Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times
- The employee is frequently required to work in close physical proximity to other people including staff, patients, and visitors
- Requires sufficient visual acuity to be able to read and write and operate equipment common to this position
- Required to read, write and speak English
- Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to effectively communicate with people directly or by telephone
- Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Physically able to stand, sit, ambulate, has dexterity in hands
- Schedule:
Full-time non-exempt (Average 40 hours per week) - Schedule may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed to allow for completion of expected duties of the position
