Position Overview
The student hourly position will support the KU Information Technology web team with website maintenance, accessibility improvements, content updates, and site migration work. This role is intended for a student interested in gaining hands‑on experience with web content management, accessibility standards, user experience, and front‑end web support.
The student will assist with editing and reviewing web pages, updating links and documents, checking content for accessibility and accuracy, and following established procedures within KU’s web tools and ticketing processes. Work may include helping prepare sites for migration, reviewing page structure, assisting with accessible PDF updates, documenting completed changes, and communicating with campus partners as needed.
This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow technical instructions, and a willingness to learn new systems such as content management platforms, file management tools, and accessibility review processes. The student will collaborate with members of the web team to support accurate, accessible, and user‑friendly KU websites.
Job Description 75% - Website Migration & CMS Build SupportAssist full‑time staff with migrating existing campus websites into the KU Sunflower CMS. Duties include rebuilding pages, transferring and formatting content, updating links, placing images and documents, reviewing page structure, and helping ensure migrated sites meet KU web, accessibility, and content standards.
10% - Website Maintenance & Development Support- Assist campus staff with designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining websites in the KU Sunflower CMS.
- This may include routine content updates, layout adjustments, navigation updates, and general site maintenance.
- Assist in providing service and support to campus staff for web‑related technical issues.
- Duties may include troubleshooting CMS questions, reviewing reported site issues, documenting completed fixes, and escalating more complex requests to full‑time staff when needed.
- Assist with basic training and documentation for campus staff using the KU Sunflower CMS, including helping explain editing workflows, content entry practices, and standard CMS procedures.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
