Position Overview
The University of Kansas Information Technology Enterprise Networking unit seeks a Senior Network Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance the university's enterprise network infrastructure. This position is responsible for advanced technical work involving the design, implementation, administration, and support of complex network systems and services.
This role operates with a high degree of independence and serves as a senior-level technical resource for the networking team. The Senior Network Engineer provides guidance on complex technical issues, contributes to standards and best practices, and supports the implementation of network architecture in collaboration with designated architecture functions. This position is responsible for adhering to all applicable university and Information Technology security policies and procedures.

Job Description30% - Incident Response and Problem Resolution
Serve as Tier 3 support for complex network incidents and service disruptions. Diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues affecting network performance and availability. Lead incident response efforts, including coordination, communication, and resolution. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
20% - Network Administration
Administer and maintain enterprise network systems, including routing, switching, wireless, and core services. Perform configuration management, software updates, and lifecycle maintenance. Support capacity planning and performance monitoring activities. Manage IP address allocation and related services.
15% - Network Implementation
Implement network infrastructure projects, including installation, configuration, and integration of hardware and software components. Coordinate implementation activities with team members, customers, and vendors. Ensure solutions align with established standards, security requirements, and operational needs.
15% - Network Design and Planning
Analyze business and technical requirements and develop network solutions to meet organizational needs. Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders on infrastructure planning and design. Contribute to the development and refinement of network standards, procedures, and best practices. Provide technical input to support long‑term network planning and scalability.
10% - Technical Guidance and Coordination
Provide technical guidance and consultation to team members on complex issues and implementations. Review and validate technical configurations and changes for accuracy and compliance with standards. Assist with work prioritization and coordination to support service delivery objectives. Participate in project and operational work requiring advanced technical expertise.
5% - Documentation and Standards Compliance
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with established standards. Support compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned
