The Production (Producing) Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and marketing accounts throughout approved states and territories. The role involves developing new business, managing assigned agencies, selecting advantageous risks, and building a profitable portfolio of accounts. The underwriter represents the Amynta Group, meets with identified insurance agencies to develop relationships with agents, and promotes the company’s products and services.

Working with the underwriting department, the underwriter analyzes the financial risk of applicants, determines coverage eligibility, monitors loss ratios for carriers and agents, and takes corrective action when needed to remain profitable. The position also requires regularly making marketing presentations to prospective clients, managing and developing agent performance, analyzing insurance applications and related data, and ensuring that each risk meets acceptable criteria.

Responsibilities
  • Owns the results of the book of business.
  • Maintains a balance between distribution and risk selection to drive profitable growth.
  • Understands how the book fits into the broader portfolio strategy.
  • Builds and maintains agent and broker relationships.
  • Solicits submissions and closes accounts within the targeted exposure profile.
  • Develops and maintains product‑specific business development plans, identifies, segments, details, and evaluates potential broker and agent prospects, and executes the plan to achieve targeted growth and hit ratios.
  • Leads the education of the broker market on products, creates a need to buy, highlights competitive differentiation, and illustrates the need for service‑led products.
  • Raises the company’s profile within the broker community and strengthens relationships to achieve highly productive producer relationships.
  • Provides a contact point for broker queries and product education, engaging in appropriate communication, including social media.
  • Develops and underwrites a profitable portfolio in support of business plans, structuring tailor‑made solutions while considering underwriting parameters and exposures.
  • Monitors premiums, costs, and claims ratios per contract and takes corrective measures to ensure long‑term profitability at account level.
  • Evaluates appropriate risk premiums, considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure, and underwriting and general administration costs.
  • Complies with underwriting control standards for business written through delegated authority.
  • Engages with all levels of leadership to solve problems.
  • Supports internal process development to maximize ease of doing business.
  • Supports business unit leadership with presentations and special projects, serving as a Center of Expertise or acting as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years of commercial underwriting experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, processes, and practice.
  • Extensive experience in the insurance industry, ideally within underwriting, broking, relationship management or sales.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with great attention to detail.
  • Individually accountable and effective at relationship management with a customer‑focused approach.
  • Ability to develop and execute tactical underwriting plans.
  • Active listening and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work independently for significant periods of time.
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Excel skills.
  • Property & Casualty Agent’s license in residing state, or willingness to obtain CPCU, AU‑M, CIC designations a plus.
  • Continuing education to maintain necessary credentials.
