The Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Lower School campus, ensuring a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role works under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance, in collaboration with the Head of Lower School, and serves as the primary on-site facilities contact for the Lower School campus.
The Facilities Manager performs hands‑on maintenance tasks, oversees custodial operations, coordinates vendors, and responds to facility needs. The position also provides occasional support at Upper School Campus for coverage or special projects, as needed. Occasional evenings and weekends duties expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade experience preferred.
- 1-3 years in facilities management or a related field, including 1-2 years in a supervisory role; experience in educational settings preferred.
- Boiler license/certification or ability to become licensed/certified preferred.
- Manage daily maintenance and custodial operations at Lower School campus.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs (minor plumbing, electrical, painting, troubleshooting, etc.).
- Coordinate with vendors and support the Director in managing service contracts.
- Assist with projects and communicate progress to the Director and Head of Lower School.
- Anticipate and address facility needs in consultation with the Director and Head of Lower School to support uninterrupted operations of the Lower School, Schafer Center, tutoring center, and summer program.
- Manage preventative maintenance of equipment, systems, and campus vehicle.
- Support compliance efforts and assist with inspections.
- Conduct daily routine inspections of buildings, systems, and grounds and assist Head of Lower School in determinations as to whether the school is safe to open.
- Maintain a clean, safe, secure, and fully operational learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with staff and leadership via in-person meetings, email, calendars, and a ticketing system; respond to requests within 24 hours.
- Provide daily direction to maintenance staff assigned to the Lower School campus.
- Maintain inventory of supplies for Lower School campus and communicate needs to the Director.
- Support emergency procedures, including drills and response coordination with first responders.
- Coordinate with the facilities team and Head of Lower School and respond professionally to all facility-related concerns.
- Support school functions by assisting with event setup and cleanup.
- Serve as an on-call emergency contact for urgent, after-hours facility matters.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and work orders.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge/experience with basic plumbing, electrical, security/fire systems, building construction, groundskeeping, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to work successfully in the presence of children, and ability to work with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.
- Good computer skills required, including email and calendars.
- Effective verbal, organizational, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and communicate needs to the Director and Head of Lower School.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Experience directing the work of custodial or maintenance staff preferred.
- Willingness to respond to after-hours calls.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
