Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is led by Secretary Janet Stanek, who was appointed by Gov. Kelly in Dec 2021. KDHE is comprised of three divisions:
Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (which includes the State’s Medicaid program, Kan Care). It is the only agency in the nation to have these three entities under one roof, allowing a holistic approach to improving and protecting the health and well‑being of all Kansans.
The Project Manager position (K0221842) is responsible for developing and maintaining project charters, project plans, communication plans, and schedules; coordinating project team meetings and working sessions; tracking milestones, dependencies, critical path items, and deadlines; identifying resource constraints; coordinating with management to resolve conflicts; maintaining project risk, issue, action, and decision logs; proactively identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies; escalating critical risks and issues;
providing timely and accurate project status reporting; coordinating decision‑making and ensuring documentation of key decisions; coordinating transition to operational support teams; and facilitating lessons learned and project close‑out activities.
- Coordinate project activities involving external vendors.
- Monitor vendor deliveries, timelines, and contractual obligations.
- Track vendor performance against project commitments.
- Facilitate review and acceptance of vendor deliverables.
- Escalate vendor performance concerns through appropriate channels.
- Education:
- High School or GED
- Licensing & Certification:
- Valid driver’s license – incumbent must maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state, private, or rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of project‑management experience
- Experience managing cross‑functional projects
Experience working with vendors and partners
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
- Knowledge of project management methodologies
- PMO process compliance
- Project planning and scheduling
- Vendor deliverable management
- Stakeholder communication
- Risk and issue management
- Documentation and reporting
- Knowledge of Medicaid, Health Reform, Health Care Systems, and/or Health Information Technology/Exchange
- Post‑Offer, Pre‑employment Requirements:
- Must pass the State of Kansas Project Management Certification within 1 year.
- Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate — a valid certificate is required within ten (10) days of the job offer.
- Hourly Pay Range: $27.61 – $30.46 (salary may vary with education, experience, or qualifications)
