Department Supervisor II – Lawrence, KSThe department supervisor II is responsible for directing the departmental workforce, coordinating all manufacturing operations, maintaining schedules and administering discipline using a wide range of skills and techniques. All of this must be done within the prescribed policies and procedures of the company. The department supervisor II is charged with managing the most critical high-volume lines in the plant (EPS, RPS, or Shipping).
ShiftWednesday through Friday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM CST and every other Saturday with the same start time.
Essential Accountabilities- Applies skills, knowledge, experience, man‑hours, machines, and tools effectively to obtain the most favorable costs and quality of workmanship.
- Acts in a Production Manager capacity in the event of a temporary vacancy.
- Acts in a Senior Management position on specified shifts in absence of the Manufacturing Team Lead.
- Participates in and coordinates company programs (e.g., communications, apprenticeships, job training, team member appraisals, wage administration).
- Maintains conformance with rules and regulations and administers disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Collaborates with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel on design and utilization of tools, production methods, applications.
- Attends company‑sponsored and special training classes to remain informed of new developments in management, supervision, and related courses.
- Records data on production, labor, team members, and scrap timely.
- Maintains security of buildings, grounds, equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Ensures accuracy of inventory and inventory management.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Organizes and assigns work to maximize cost and quality of workmanship.
- Ensures quality and accuracy of products and timely completion of schedules.
- Maintains and trains an efficient workforce according to job requirements, work levels, schedules, and training programs.
- Enforces safety device use, general housekeeping, and vigilance for hazardous conditions.
- Administers company policies and maintains a harmonious employer‑team member relationship.
- Must be able to lift 45 lbs unassisted continuously and frequently overhead; lifting more than 45 lbs requires at least two people.
- Frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 45–80 lbs, requiring teamwork of at least two people for >45 lbs.
- Must be able to stand or walk for 8–12 hours daily.
- Must move safely and efficiently on the manufacturing floor.
- Bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and/or ladders may be required for specific tasks.
- Must use hands, wrists, and fingers for tasks.
- Must work in a loud, fast‑paced industrial environment.
- Requires manual dexterity and hand‑to‑eye coordination with hand/power tools.
- May require frequent use of computer, keyboard, tablet, and/or scanner.
- Must work in hot and cold environments.
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a production environment.
- Effective group/public speaking skills.
- Capable of communicating orally and in writing with hourly and management personnel.
- Earned a BA in a business‑related field or equivalent experience.
- Efficient organizational, time‑management, and analytical skills.
- Mechanical competence and safety‑conscious practices knowledge.
