Process Technician
The Process Technician monitors and operates thermoforming equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role performs start-up, shutdown, and cycling procedures for the entire thermoforming line, troubleshoots equipment and process issues, and supports operators and quality assurance to maintain consistent product standards. The Process Technician accurately documents production data, follows strict safety and sanitation procedures, and collaborates closely with team members to keep operations running smoothly across multiple production locations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate thermoforming equipment to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient production throughout the shift.
- Perform start-up, shutdown, and cycling procedures for the entire thermoforming line, including the extruder, former, and trim press.
- Troubleshoot and correct basic equipment and process issues on the line to reduce downtime and scrap.
- Perform and document in-process quality checks to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards.
- Communicate clearly during shift changes to ensure accurate handoffs and continuity of operations.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve production issues and maintain consistent output.
- Complete line changeovers, including setup, adjustments, and verification, and ensure all related documentation is filled out accurately and completely.
- Follow all environmental, health, and safety regulations, including GMP, HACCP, SQF, ISO, and internal company policies.
- Obtain and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) properly before the shift starts and throughout the workday.
- Record accurate production data in systems such as WebEFF and other production tracking tools.
- Support operators when issues arise, including assisting with defective parts, rework, and process adjustments.
- Work closely with quality assurance by verifying product specifications and documenting rejected data when required.
- Follow sanitation procedures, line clearance protocols, and equipment startup and shutdown checklists.
- Keep the production area clean and organized, ensuring all chemicals, tools, and materials are stored properly and safely.
- Report safety concerns, abnormal machine behavior, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors immediately.
- Assist other team members and departments as needed to maintain smooth operations across the facility.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or Assistant Group Leader to support production goals and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment and process issues.
- Production, manufacturing, or warehouse experience, including general labor and machine operation.
- Ability to support thermoforming, molding, and related manufacturing processes.
- Dependable work history with strong attendance and punctuality.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to product quality and safety standards.
- Willingness to complete on-the-job training and demonstrate understanding of process responsibilities.
- Ability to accurately complete documentation and enter data into production systems such as WebEFF.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production needs.
- Ability to stand, walk, or bend for the majority of an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
- 20/20 vision with correction if needed and the ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to safely climb stairs and ladders as needed.
- Good manual dexterity and use of hands for handling tools and materials.
- Ability to work around grease, oils, solvents, and in dusty environments without adverse reactions.
- Ability to respond to visual and audible alarms and communicate verbally in a manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in warehouse, production, manufacturing, or general labor environments.
- Mechanical experience with industrial or production equipment.
- Prior experience with machine operation in thermoforming, molding, or printing environments.
