Overview
Position coordinates and oversees the internal work of the Center for Community Outreach (CCO). In this role, the Managing Director must help ensure that the CCO’s budget is maintained and sufficient to meet the needs of programs and program coordinators. This is achieved through outreach to donors, diligent record-keeping of donations, and regular communication with the Center for Service Learning and Student Senate Program Coordinators to understand the status of funds.
The Managing Director must also work closely with the Executive Director to ensure internal programs, development, and publicity align with community needs while fulfilling the organization’s mission.
Hiring, weekly hour maximum, and hourly rate of pay are contingent on KU Student Senate funding.
Responsibilities65% - Peer Advising and Program Management
- Collaborate with Executive Director over the summer to plan Super Service Saturday.
- Peer advise six CCO programs and Events and Development Directors. Programs will be divided up between the Executive and Managing Directors with insight from outgoing directors and CCO advisors.
- In Peer Advising meetings, monitor and ensure program turnover updates are completed in a timely fashion, and assign office hour tasks.
- Attend weekly CCO Executive Staff meetings.
- Encourage and facilitate collaborative events and programs between and within CCO programs.
- Meet bi-weekly with the Center for Service Learning to discuss internal management and CCO programming.
- Administer the volunteer.ku.edu website and ensure its use in tracking volunteerism. In addition, help coordinators and volunteers navigate volunteer.ku.edu.
- Work closely with Executive Director to ensure overall program health; meeting once a week to discuss current CCO needs.
- Organize the hiring of the CCO Directors and selection of Program Coordinators in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Attend CCO Advisory Board meetings and report program and organizational updates.
30% - Finances
- Oversee and manage the financial health of the CCO. This includes applying for Block funding from Student Senate in the spring semester, pursuing fundraising initiatives, and managing and tracking spending and remaining funds.
- Carry out Purchase Order requests through active engagement with programs and communication with Student Senate Program Coordinators.
5% - Additional tasks and projects as determined throughout the term
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
