The Community Engagement Specialist 2 leads hands-on STEM programs for schools, families, and community groups. This role delivers science shows, workshops, festivals, and large events for groups of up to 400 people. The specialist may also support camps and help train or coordinate volunteers. The focus is on serving diverse and under-resourced communities through welcoming, inclusive programs.

This is a part-time position (20–32 hours per week) through June, with the possibility of additional July-August community work and substitute summer camp shifts.

Pay: $24.76 – $32.90 per hour

Hours: Part-time, 20–32 hours per week. Programs are typically held Monday – Friday, with some evenings and weekends as needed.

Lawrence On-The-Go connects communities to high-quality STEM experiences. Our programs are local, culturally responsive, and grounded in equity and inclusion. We aim to build science confidence, spark curiosity, and create pathways for continued engagement with The Lawrence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and lead engaging STEM programs for diverse audiences
  • Deliver science shows, workshops, festivals, and community events
  • Manage program schedules, calendars, and communications
  • Create welcoming, inclusive, and accessible experiences
  • Gather feedback and improve programs based on participant needs
  • Train and support outreach staff and volunteers
  • Organize, maintain, and order program materials
  • Address concerns, resolve conflicts, and respond to emergencies
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for The Lawrence
  • Support programs during evenings, weekends, or as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience delivering community or educational programs
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to use basic office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move equipment
  • Ability to drive large cargo vans for long distances
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
