Job Summary
This position reports to the Manager, Microbiology and is responsible for effectively hiring, developing, coaching, counseling, managing and motivating staff. The supervisor oversees the activities of lab technicians up through Lead Scientist levels, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of required testing of Environmental Monitoring (EM)/Utilities, raw materials, in‑process and finished products. They assure compliance with GMP, company specifications, USP and EP, identify areas for validation and improvement, and develop protocols for them.
The supervisor keeps the manager informed of all departmental activities and product‑related events.
- Supervise daily activities of scientists and technicians, ensuring job activity deadlines are met on a timely basis.
- Hire and oversee the training of department personnel and conduct performance evaluations.
- Maintain positive personnel morale and development through mentorship and training.
- Execute monitoring and testing programs to assess the quality of raw materials, components, in‑process and finished goods, environmental systems/utilities systems, and efficiency of production processes.
- Establish goals for the timely release of product and performance of projects, monitor performance against goals, and implement corrective action.
- Generate or revise Standard Operating Procedures for Microbiology test procedures and ensure equipment is calibrated and supplies are available.
- Investigate and rectify non‑conforming raw material, product or component results, determining disposition and identifying corrective actions.
- Review work performed by department staff for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to specifications.
- Supervise qualification/requalification of production and laboratory personnel and oversee validation activities for the responsible area.
- Investigate and resolve non‑conforming test results, completing thorough Deviation, OOS/OOT, EE, and Investigation reports.
- Collaborate with Production, QA, Chemistry, Maintenance, Metrology, and Validation departments to meet environmental monitoring, product testing, PM, calibration and re‑qualification schedules.
- Represent the department in cross‑functional teams and meetings, assuming managerial duties in the manager’s absence.
Salary Range: $73,614 – $103,528. Eligible for a bonus plan with a target of 6% of base salary.
