The Quality Technician III supports the Quality Engineering group by processing First Article Inspection (FAI) and Part Approval Process, selectively inspecting components, analyzing and processing internal Nonconformance (NC) material, and performing other administrative and logistical support duties. The role also represents the Quality Department during UAV flight acceptance test activity.
Position Responsibilities- Process inbound or outbound FAI and deliverable submissions accurately and timely, including receipt and analysis of parts and documentation, completion of related records and logs, and communication of submission status to QEs, managers, engineers or interested parties.
- Conduct selective inspections under the direction of the QE group, verifying material, maintaining documentation, communicating results, and processing material post‑verification using the Agile/Oracle database.
- Process internal non‑conforming material as needed, retrieving and analyzing material, interpreting preliminary findings, restating problem statements for clarity, managing NC processes, and maintaining necessary documentation.
- Provide general support to QEs, including communication, Corrective Action Request processing, product evaluation, sorting activities, and interfacing with team members to support continuous improvement initiatives (A3, Six Sigma DMAIC).
- Lead and facilitate problem‑solving activities such as Fishbone, 5‑Why, and Fault‑tree analyses.
- Plan and coordinate QA Technician I and II activities, providing general guidance.
- Support the DCMA Source Inspection process and create the Final Inspection documentation package (COC, TDRs, etc.) and assist during internal/external customer inspections.
- Represent and support QEs during internal and third‑party audits concerning measurement systems and documented procedures.
- Develop and maintain process instructions for quality‑related activities.
- Execute moderately challenging assignments requiring judgment and recommendations, and perform any other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2–4 years of related work experience, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Aerospace quality management system experience (AS9100DD) and/or internal audit experience.
- Expertise in mechanical inspection methods and tools, including surface plate work, hand tools, and gauges.
- Strong ability to read and understand drawing requirements, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (ANSI Y14.5).
- Knowledge of FAI validation and verification process requirements.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and specification systems.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Ability to complete flight test documentation and record non‑conformances.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑flight visual inspections on flight hardware and components.
- Skill to remove and replace field‑replaceable components on aircraft.
- Populate Excel spreadsheets daily with flight test results.
- Work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
- Travel to and from remote flying sites daily.
- Valid California driver's license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- 2‑year technical degree preferred; quality system courses and/or equivalent experience preferred.
- Ability to accurately record and manage data, records, files, and documents.
- Analytical problem‑solving skills and strong organizational abilities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective time management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
