Position Overview
The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment at the University of Kansas seeks a full-time post-baccalaureate Research Assistant (title: Assistant Researcher). The successful candidate will work closely with Principal Investigator Dr. Richard Yi on basic science research investigating substance use, decision-making, and intertemporal choices in addition to center administrator duties.
Responsibilities- Adhere to research protocols and complete daily research-related tasks
- Communicate with the IRB and draft IRB submissions/amendments
- Manage participant recruitment, enrollment, and other study procedures
- Oversee data organization and security
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of study data
- Conduct literature reviews and documents to support manuscript preparation, oral presentations, poster presentations, and grant writing
- Ensure that research projects run smoothly and effectively
- Book travel arrangements for visiting scholars
- Coordinate schedules between faculty, students, and staff
- Track expenditures across various projects and labs
- Train and oversee undergraduate research assistants
- Communicate with IRB and manage IRB submissions/amendments
- Manage participant recruitment, enrollment, consent and tracking
- Perform varied administrative support duties such as making travel arrangements, coordinating schedules, and ensuring budget adherence
- Maintain a clean and efficient center
- Collect and organize participant data
- Oversee data entry and security
- Analyze and interpret data
- Assist with data preparation for review documents and progress reports
- Assist with creation and editing of study documents, such as protocols, consent forms, and subject communications
- Screen participants for study eligibility
- Document participant visits and procedures
- Adhere to research protocols and study procedures
- Assist PI with the preparation of posters and analyses for publication
- Conduct literature searches
- Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external study collaborators, including investigators, sponsors, and monitors
This position is fully on-site and does not offer remote or hybrid work options.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, pre‑medical studies, or other related fields by start date or a High School Diploma and four years of related experience
- Previous experience in research settings, as evidenced by application materials
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail, as demonstrated by application materials
- Coursework or prior training in clinical psychology or behavioral medicine/health research, as evidenced by application materials
- Research, professional experience, and/or interest in substance use and other health behaviors, as evidenced by application materials
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to develop additional computer skills related to data management and statistical analysis, as evidenced by application materials
- Experience with survey administration and study management platforms such as Qualtrics or REDCap
- Experience with programming in languages such as R, programming in Excel, or other tools
- Previous experience that required strong attention to detail, and ability to function autonomously in a collaborative multidisciplinary team, as evidenced by application materials
- Previous experience that required flexibility working in a fast‑paced environment
